(on how everyone looked at practice today) “Good, I think that this is a very big challenge for us on Sunday, but I do believe that these guys have practiced well. I feel good about the way that we’re practicing right now, but again, the key is putting it out there on the game field on Sunday.”
(on how T Derek Newton looked back out at practice today) “Yeah, he was out there practicing and finished the practice, haven’t really talked to him since the end of practice but looked okay to me.”

(on how QB Brian Hoyer looked today) “Yeah, good to have him back and he did a nice job. I thought it was a good start. Practice-wise we had a good practice out there. Guys look like they’re focused and that’s what it’s going to take to beat the Saints.”
(on how CB Kareem Jackson looked) “He looked good. I thought he had one of his better practices.”
WR DeAndre Hopkins
(on if he catches the ball one-handed in games to just practice and see if he can do it) “No, it’s just instincts more so than practice. It’s going out there and catching the ball. I don’t really think about it as it happens.”

(on being named AFC Defensive Player of the Week) “It’s a credit to my teammates. It’s a credit to the guys around me for helping me make plays, coaches putting me in a good situation.”

Houston Texans Week 12 Release vs. New Orleans Saints (Nov. 29)
Houston Texans Transcripts (11/23): Head Coach Bill O'Brien
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “That was a good win for us yesterday. I thought it was really a good example of complementary football. I think these guys have really understood that the last three games and they went out there and kind of fed off each other all three units. The key is now that we’ve got to quickly turn the page here. We’ve got a busy week here with Thanksgiving and things like that, and our guys have to understand that New Orleans is coming in here off of a bye week and very good football team with a great coaching staff. We’ve got to move forward to the Saints here. With that, I’ll open it up to questions.”
(on the status of QB Brian Hoyer) “Yeah, it sounds like he’s out of the protocol as of this morning. He passed the final test there and he’ll be our starter on Sunday.”

Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “We had a decent practice today. It was great to have all the veterans and service men and women out there. It was great. Our guys really look forward to that and just thank them for everything they do to protect our freedom, especially during this day and age. It’s just awesome to have them here, so Salute to Service week, very appreciative of that. With that, I’ll open it up to questions.”

(on if he is making progress in his recovery) “I am 100 percent.”
QB Brandon Weeden
(on being back with QB Brian Hoyer after spending time together in Cleveland) “I got a chance to see him in the fourth preseason game and kind of catch up. We always had a great working relationship. Brian’s a great guy, he’s a pro. He’s been around Tom (Brady), he’s been around a lot of guys that have been doing it for a long time. I’m excited to be back in it with him. It wasn’t pretty, but in the end the only thing that counts is the win. Like I said last night after the game, proud of these guys and the effort that they gave in the game and really glad to come out with a win, but the key is now to do it again, so we’ve got to move quickly here on to the New York Jets which we did as soon as we landed. (on if he thinks Cincinnati has evolved as a team over the years) “Well I’ve seen these guys for a number of years, so going back to when I was first in the league in 2007, it’s certainly changed since then. Obviously different personnel, I think what they have right now is they’ve got a bunch of guys that’ve played together for a while. You’ve got (Andy) Dalton with A.J. Green, you’ve got (Tyler) Eifert, you’ve got the two backs, (Jeremy) Hill and (Giovani) Bernard, you’ve got the line, (Mohamed) Sanu, Marvin Jones is in there, so you’ve got some guys that’ve played together, so there’s a good chemistry there. That’s a big challenge, that’s a challenge because those guys know each other pretty well. That’s why I think, one of the reasons why they’re playing so well. As far as the evolution of scheme and what they do, I think everybody changes every year, but those guys have gotten to know each other real well.”
WR DeAndre Hopkins
(on the success of the team being tied to him having a big second half of the season) “Whatever comes my way, however I can help this team win, that’s what I’m going to do.”

We really thank you for protecting our freedom and appreciate everything that you do to make this country a better country. I have a couple of real quick deals here. I think it was two days ago we had Admiral Bill McRaven come in and speak to our football team, who’s now the chancellor of the University of Texas System, is a Texas grad, he’s a Longhorn, and he was the leader of the Operation Neptune Spear that killed Osama bin Laden. He came and spoke to our team and just gave our team a great message, and on Veterans Day, I think it was really important for a guy like that to be able to come in and do that, even though it wasn’t right on Veterans Day, we got a lot out of that. I have a personal friend, also teammate of (Offensive Coordinator) George Godsey’s from Georgia Tech that was an Army Ranger, lives here in the Houston area. His name is Matt Uremovich, served several tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, think he was one of those guys that volunteered to go back, and just a shout out to him on this Veterans Day and thank him for all that he did for our country. Several players return from injuries following bye
Ryan Griffin returns to practice
Houston Texans Transcripts (11/9): Bill O'Brien, Duane Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “Everybody came in ready to go today, had a good day of practice, and everybody got a chance to recharge their batteries and that’s the good thing about the bye week. Hopefully guys were able to get healthy and things like that. I don’t have much of an update on injuries and things like that. (Jadeveon) Clowney, I’m not sure where that’s at right now. Kareem Jackson probably would be out for this game. Cecil Shorts should be ready to go for this game. Ryan Griffin was out there at practice today, so other than that, I’ll open it up to questions.”
T Duane Brown
(on how it felt to be back out on the field at practice after going through the concussion protocol) “It felt great, just one of those things, never experienced that before, so good to be back out there, good to be amongst my teammates getting ready for Monday night.”

Brian Hoyer: The Road to Houston
1st place Texans seek big things in 2nd half
OLB production a topic to watch in 2nd half of '15
Kevin Johnson nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week
Football 101: Polk’s chip block
The sacks, touchdowns and tackles are easy to see, but sometimes the key to the play is hidden in the intricate details we don’t find. On Hopkins' touchdown, running back Chris Polk gave a clinic on how a chip block works.

Houston Texans Transcripts (11/3): Assistant Coaches and Open Locker Room
Secondary Coach John Butler
(on how the secondary has performed the first half of the season) “I think the guys have done a nice job of preparing. I think there are obviously some games we’ve played better than others. I think collectively we are still in the process of coming together as a unit, both the corners and the safeties under the direction of myself and (Assistant Secondary) Coach (Anthony) Midget. I think that overall the focus is trying to get them a little bit better each week and I think we accomplished that last week against Tennessee.”
Linebackers Coach Mike Vrabel
(on the play of OLB Whitney Mercilus) “Yeah, his progress is, he comes in everyday ready to work, willing to learn, get better. We try to coach him hard every day and try to make him better. He is willing, since the first day that this staff has gotten here, to try and learn those things and not just be the defensive end that he was in college. In his first few years here, he is trying to get better awareness in his coverage game, he’s trying to work on his moves, he’s trying to understand how to set a guy up, he’s not using the same moves over and over, so I think he’s getting better.”

O'Brien: 3 key stats determine Texans success
Houston Texans Transcripts (11/2): Bill O'Brien, Kevin Johnson, Rahim Moore and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “Yesterday was a good team win. It’s good to go into the bye week with a win. We’ll work here today, we’re working right now, we’ll work tomorrow, we’ll work on Wednesday and then players will have off until the following Monday. It’ll give them an opportunity to rest and get some guys healthy. Coaching staff will spend a lot of time analyzing what we’ve done, try to improve, self-scout, look at some things that we can change and I think the bye week comes at a good time for all of us. Got a lot of work to do in preparation for a really good Cincinnati team, got a lot of work to do in that regard. As far as injuries, Kareem Jackson, Benardrick McKinney and Cecil Shorts, those guys are still being treated for their various injuries and won’t know too much about them until the following week obviously when they get back from the break. Duane Brown is in the concussion protocol, seems to be feeling better today. Jadeveon Clowney, I would say he’s day-to-day, and Kurtis Drummond is also in the concussion protocol, think he seems to be feeling better today, but we’ll know more about those injuries next week. With that, I’ll open it to questions.”
S Rahim Moore
(on when he found out he wasn’t going to play vs. the Titans) “It was actually, I believe it was on Wednesday morning. Yeah, Wednesday morning.”
