Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(on if DE J.J. Watt will have a normal workload on Sunday) “Yeah, he looked ready to go. So I would say the answer to that question would be yes.”
(on the status of G Brandon Brooks) “Yeah Brooks, he practiced, so yes it will be the same, the same answer as I gave for J.J. (Watt).”
(on T Derek Newton) “Same.”

Bill O’Brien rules out four players vs. TEN
Houston Texans Transcripts (10/29): Bill O'Brien, Jadeveon Clowney, Brian Cushing and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “Just on the injury front, I would say that Brandon Brooks would be closer to a game-time decision. I’d say Derek Newton will try to go tomorrow, so that’d be a day-to-day deal there. Akeem Dent, Benardrick McKinney, Cecil Shorts, those guys, and Kareem Jackson, those guys will be out for the game. Then J.J. (Watt) I believe is day-to-day but I believe he’ll be able to play in the game. (Jadeveon) Clowney was back at practice. I think he feels better. With that, I’ll open it to questions.”
OLB Jadeveon Clowney
(on how big of a deal it was to get his first sack last week) “That wasn’t a big deal. We were down 41 to nothing, man. I’m just like, ‘This is the worse time to get a sack in this situation’ but I was happy about it.”
(on Head Coach Bill O’Brien saying he’s almost like a rookie and if he feels that way) “Yeah, I still think so at times. I was telling the guys that I still feel like a rookie at times because I’ve never played this many games in a season in the NFL yet, so being out there now eight games in, it feels great. I still got a lot of games left to play.”

Houston Texans Transcripts (10/28): HC Bill O'Brien, DE J.J. Watt, QB T.J. Yates and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “Alright so yesterday, we made some roster moves. We signed T.J. Yates. He’ll back up Brian Hoyer. He’s got some familiarity with our offense and he can step in and do the job for us. Had a good practice today, had a lot of recall. We placed Arian Foster on injured reserve. We promoted Kurtis Drummond. He was a safety on the practice squad and had practiced really well and earned the opportunity to be on the 53, so we moved him up and we brought Daryl Richardson back, running back, to the practice squad. I’m sure you guys were out there, you noticed that J.J. (Watt) was not out there. He’s dealing with a minor injury and I believe he’ll be able to play. Jadeveon Clowney was sick today. He was suffering from kind of a 24-hour bug. He wasn’t out there at practice today. I guess I’ve been told that a lot of things have been said over the last couple of days in the media about how the organization works and things like that. Let me just say this, first of all, (Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager) Rick Smith and I both have respect for each other. We work together every day. We communicate every day. It’s a partnership. Decisions are made by two of us and obviously they require the concurrence of the owner, Bob McNair. When it comes to personnel and coaching and playing and all those things, it’s a partnership. That’s how it works around here. As far as anything else, I’ll open it up to questions.”

(opening statement) “Just on yesterday’s performance, we understand that once again it wasn’t a very acceptable performance. It’s not acceptable at all. Nobody is more frustrated than we are in this building, coaches and players alike. I really do believe that there are many things we have to coach better. The players know that they have to play better. We’re going to work very hard to put together a better game plan for the Tennessee game, and we’re counting on our fans. We’re back home here, divisional opponent. We have great fans here in Houston and we’re looking forward to playing in front of those fans on Sunday. As I talked about yesterday after the game, we’re dealing with Ryan Mallett and that situation internally, (Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager) Rick Smith and I. So I won’t have any comments regarding that at this point. Arian Foster will undergo an MRI I believe today, might be at it right now. I know he’s hurt. He worked hard to come back for the season, had the groin injury, and now this injury. He’s a guy that’s proven he can come back from injury and I’m sure once he’s able to rehab it, he’ll rehab it very diligently and try to come back. We’re all supportive of him in that rehab. With that, I’ll open it to questions.”

Cam’ron tragically died of an aneurism during their game last weekend. It’s a very good rush defense that we were going against. We can always do better running the ball, but I thought the guys blocked really hard and I think the pass protection was very good for the most part. Some of the play-action protections, we got some pressure on, but overall when I spoke to the team at noon, I told the team that on the offensive side of the ball, I thought the offensive line played well as a unit.”

(on if he’s excited about his new born baby girl and if he’s on a ‘no-sleep high’) “Definitely. Definitely excited, but definitely operating on a no-sleep high. Definitely for a great cause though. Just the joy I felt, my first child, a baby girl. Definitely excited about that.”

(on the progression of DE Jared Crick and OLB Jadeveon Clowney) “Jared Crick is doing okay, think he’ll have a chance to play. I’d say JD (Jadeveon Clowney) is still day-to-day.”

Houston Texans Transcripts (10/14): Bill O'Brien, Jadeveon Clowney, Brian Hoyer, J.J. Watt, and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “Yesterday we made some roster moves. Released Chandler Worthy, released Edawn Coughman and signed Brandon Dunn to the 53 and Josh Lenz to the practice squad. With that, I’ll open it up for questions.”
(on if he’s seen progress from OLB Jadeveon Clowney and DE Jared Crick and if they’ll play this week) “I would say they definitely have a chance but it’s day-to-day.”
DE J.J. Watt
(on the difference in the way the defense has played this year versus the last five games last year) “I mean we need to get more takeaways on defense. That’s one thing we did great. We just need to focus on what we’re doing and make sure that we do our assignments, we play our roles and we got out there and we play to the best of our abilities. I think we’ve had a great week of practice so far. I think we have a few more days here to hone things up. I think it’s been a very encouraging week.”

(on today's practice) “It was a good practice. Those guys really responded well. Like I’ve said to you guys a bunch, we’ve got a bunch of hardworking guys and they responded well today which was good to see. It was a tough practice, wasn’t an easy practice. That was good to see.”
(on the last time he had them in pads like today) “Probably right before the season started. There’s a rule there, which basically is one per week. I think it’s a total of 15 for the year once the regular season starts. We kind of try to space it out, use them all, but maybe not all in a row basically.”

Jadeveon Clowney "should be fine" for Week 6
Houston Texans Transcripts (10/9): Head Coach Bill O'Brien

(opening statement) “Just a couple injury updates and then I’ll just talk about a few other things. Oday Aboushi is probably day-to-day. It’s turf toe. He didn’t break a toe. I think somebody said he broke a toe. It wasn’t broken but he is day-to-day. Alfred Blue is in the same category with a similar type of injury. A.J. Bouye, he should be fine for the Jacksonville game. JD (Jadeveon) Clowney should be fine for the Jacksonville game. Arian Foster, they evaluated him on the sideline and he was able to go back in the game and he finished the game. I think everybody else is pretty much in that day-to-day category. Johnathan Joseph, Ryan Mallett, Derek Newton, all those guys, I think they’ll be ready for Jacksonville. But those are also day-to-day category guys too just from a practice standpoint. Obviously it’s not where we want to be as a team. But I can tell you this, we’re going to stick together. This team, we’ve got a resilient bunch of guys in this locker room. I’m not saying that to be a salesman. I really am not. I know where we’re at. I think we’ve got to approach it 11 games left, each game is what I would call a one-game season. We’re on to the next game. We just sat in there and we met for two-and-a-half, three hours on that game last night, did some good things but not enough. I’m going to let the players get away for the weekend and then they’ll come back here on Monday and we’ll work hard on Monday. We’ll have a good practice Monday and then we’ll have a normal work week after that leading up to Jacksonville...

Houston Texans Transcripts (10/6): Arian Foster, DeAndre Hopkins, Colts WR Andre Johnson, JJ Watt, and more
RB Arian Foster
(on what he hopes to accomplish in his second game back) “To win.”
(on his personal goals) “To help win.”
WR DeAndre Hopkins
(on if it will be weird for him to go against Colts WR Andre Johnson) “It is. He’s still my big brother. We still communicate all the time. It’s going to be weird seeing him in a different uniform.”
Colts WR Andre Johnson Conference Call
(on if he has any negative feelings about the Texans) “No, not at all. I don’t have any ill will towards them or the organization. I have a lot of friends on that team, a lot of guys that I went to battle with on Sundays. It’s part of the business, it’s the nature of the business. When you play for a long time in this league, sometimes that day eventually happens. Other than that, I’m not really worried about it.”

(opening statement) “I just want to congratulate the Astros and (Houston Astros Manager) A.J. Hinch on just a great wild card berth and good luck. I think they play Tuesday, if I’m not mistaken, and they play the Yankees, so I’ll definitely be rooting hard for the Astros in that game. On to yesterday, you know, losing like that is tough. It’s not good. It’s not acceptable. We are a team that’s going to continue to fight. We’re a team that’s going to come to work. Our guys are in here right now working in the weight room and working on Indianapolis already. We’re going to improve. We’re going to get better. That may not be what everyone here wants to hear, but that’s the truth. It’s my responsibility, like I told you after the game yesterday, to make sure that type of game never happens again and that our team is better prepared to play these games starting Thursday night against the Colts. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that we improve and that we come out and go compete hard and get a win against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night....
