Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “So there are some roster moves, a lot of different moving parts, so I won’t be able to announce everything today because some of them aren’t official. We released Randy Bullock and we signed Nick Novak. We also signed linebacker Kourtnei Brown and linebacker Brian Peters, and then there’s other moving parts as far as other players. I’m not prepared to talk about that right now, so you’d be wasting your time if you asked that question. I would say with the kicker situation, every decision we make is in the best interest of the team and we felt like this was the best move for the team. If you ask that question, you’ll get the same answer on that. We had a good practice today, just looking forward to having a good meeting this afternoon and trying to have a good practice again tomorrow.”
Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn Conference Call
(on the biggest reason for the Falcons 3-0 start) “I think number one, coming into the team, how close could this team get in a short time, you know through the offseason, to really get to the details of our spots, so that part I think is happening in terms of the closeness, the communication that has to happen on both sides. We’ve got a long way to go to play as good as we’re going to play, but I think at this point I’m feeling the toughness and the effort and the energy that I’d hope for. That’s kind of where we’re at right now and just trying to work each day to see if we can get better."

Breakfast: 8 things Ryan Mallett did better
Monday, September 28, 2015
Houston Texans Transcripts (9/28): Bill O'Brien, Duane Brown, Johnathan Joseph, and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(on why offensive linemen have to be more versatile than other players on the roster) “Well I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I would say that if you go position by position, for instance if you look at our defensive line position, even though we don’t have a number of players there, we do have guys that are versatile, we line up guys at defensive end and nose. I think if you look at our secondary we’ve lined guys up, not necessarily in these first three games, but we’ve lined guys up in the past at corner, at safety. I think we look for versatility at a lot of positions, not every single one, but I think on the offensive line, because there is a similar skill set to all five of those positions, that the more versatility you have player-wise, the better you’re going to be able to help fill some holes when there are some injuries. On game day, if you decide to bring seven or you decide to bring eight, clearly you can’t bring 10, so those guys that you bring, the next two after the five that start the game, they have to be versatile because if somebody goes down, they have to be able to fill in at a number of different positions. I think that’s the biggest reason why.”
T Duane Brown
(on Offensive Line Coach Mike Devlin) “Coach Devlin has done an incredible job. Just his knowledge of the game, the way that he kind of talks to us and really giving guys confidence to go out and play well, no matter if you’re a rookie, an eight-year vet, whether you’ve been here a couple years or a week in Oday’s (Aboushi) case. He’s a great coach and a great leader for us in that room. You’ve got guys playing out of position, (Derek) Newton playing at guard. It’s a lot of things going on in there, but he still finds a way to make it all gel. The guys themselves going out there and making it all come together and work out, it’s great to see.”

Houston Texans Week 3 Release vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sept. 27)
Houston Texans Transcripts (9/21): Bill O'Brien, Duane, Brown, Kareem Jackson, and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(opening statement) “I’ll just start off today with a little injury update. (T) Jeff Adams, he’ll be out for the year with a knee injury. I feel for the guy. The guy really put a lot of effort into this season. He was here all offseason, really improved as a player, and those things happen. Those injuries happen. He’ll be out for the year. The rest of these guys are basically day-to-day. I would even say (T) Duane Brown would be day-to-day. We’ll see how that goes towards the end of the week. (RB) Arian Foster, same thing, day-to-day. Kind of see how that goes and keep you updated on that throughout the week. Other than that, open it up to questions.”
T Duane Brown
(on if he is playing on Sunday vs. the Buccaneers) “I can’t say that quite yet. I’m still taking it one day at a time, seeing how much I can heal up this week.”

(opening statement) “After cooperation and collaboration with the NFL, the decision has been made to change the surface that we play on here at NRG Stadium from the natural grass tray system to an artificial surface. Our players have always enjoyed playing on natural grass here, and I think if you asked them, they would tell you to a man that they prefer to play on natural grass versus an artificial surface. But it’s our responsibility, both at the club level as well as the league level, to protect players from unnecessary risk. The decision was made in the interest of that...

I think everything else was basically bumps and bruises that guys will recover from and be able to play against Carolina. For instance, Duane Brown really fought tough with a hand injury, but I think he’ll be alright. He may not practice a whole lot this week but he’ll be ready for the game on Sunday.
Just on a couple other things, I told you last night that we need to do a better job of coaching, need to do a better job of playing in all three phases, special teams, offense and defense. Really when I watched the tape, that’s really what came to light. Told the team today it’s a very, very long season. It’s one game. After tonight’s game, half the league will be 0-1.

Texans a corregir errores y tomar decisiones
Los Texans han iniciado la temporada con una derrota que tal vez se podía anticipar debido a que Kansas City contaba con una defensa fuerte y un corredor estelar y como los Texans terminaron a un triunfo de la post temporada en el 2014.

(on the progress he’s made) “We’ve made a lot of progress in the rehab of my injury and we’re excited about that.”
(on if he is happy with how much progress he’s made and if he is surprised) “I’m not happy because I would rather be out there with my teammates but life happens and you got to roll with it. As far as being where I’m at at this point, we’re ahead of schedule and the doctors are pleased with it and so are the trainers. Just keep on working.”

(on Chiefs rookie center Mitch Morse and game planning for him) “I mean, we watch a lot of film on these guys. (on the first full regular season practice today) “I thought it was very intense. There’s still some things we need to work on. It’s Wednesday and, you know, we do a good job of going through some of their main things, but then we’ll throw some things to them in practice that maybe we haven’t walked through in the morning so we see how they react. They reacted well, but there’s still some things we need to clean. But the guys were very competitive today, they were ready to go and it was good to see that.”
OLB Jadeveon Clowney
(on if he’s looking forward to getting back out there) “I’m looking forward to playing. We’ve been practicing hard, working hard, trying to get ready for Kansas City.”
DE J.J. Watt
(on Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles) “Yeah, Jamaal is a very good running back. He’s extremely quick, extremely fast, he’s one of those players that can break out at any time, so you need to make sure you keep him contained and you need to make sure your defense does a good job of everyone doing their job and knowing their assignment.”

Defense knows Chiefs' O is "very potent"
Bill O'Brien and Texans player quotes: September 7
Houston Texans Transcripts (9/7): Bill O'Brien, Duane Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, Kareem Jackson, and more
Head Coach Bill O’Brien
(on the roster cuts and if the defensive line will eventually need one more player) “I would say that anytime you have to release guys that’ve put a lot of work into it and given you everything they’ve had, you could go down the list of names that we released, every guy really put time into this thing. These things are tough, but the rule says you have to get down to 53 and a 10 man practice squad and that’s what we did. Every decision is made in the best interest of the team. Every position is evaluated on a week to week basis including the practice squad. It’s always evaluated. This’ll be probably the 53 that we go into the first week with here, but those things can change. But this is the best 53 that we feel like we have right now.”
T Duane Brown
(on how he feels about playing this weekend vs. the Chiefs) “I’m doing pretty good. Still taking it a day at a time. That’s about it.”
(on if he is confident he will play this weekend vs. the Chiefs) “Yeah, I am. Like I said, it’s been progressing pretty well. We’ll just see. One day at a time. That’s about all I’m doing.”

(opening statement) “We’re in the process of still trying to get this roster down to 53. It’s a difficult process. We have until tomorrow afternoon to do that. So, I’m going to wait until those announcements are officially announced before I comment on those things. I just will say this again, I said this last week when we were getting the roster to 75, it’s a very difficult process. It’s a bunch of guys, you start out with 90 guys and they work extremely hard. They give you everything they’ve got in the weight room, on the practice field, and in the film room. When you call them into your office and they meet with both myself and Rick Smith, I think we just try to be upfront and honest with them and tell them, ‘look, here’s what you did well and here’s what you need to work on’ and then go from there. It’s a difficult process. Obviously, more difficult on the player than it is on us. But, it’s a tough, tough day for everybody and we appreciate everybody’s efforts that has been trying to make this team.”
